Give

Everything we have ultimately belongs to Allah. Followers of Isa learn to become generous people who give money, time, service, encouragement, hospitality, and practical help to others. Giving is not merely an obligation. It is an expression of worship, trust, gratitude, and love.

Isa teaches that generous people reflect the heart of Allah. Click each heading below to expand or collapse the sections.

Look Up

Read these passages together slowly:

Matthew 6:19-21 — “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Acts 20:35 — "In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 — The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

James 2:15-17 — If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Mark 12:41-44 — And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Galatians 6:9-10 — And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Matthew 6:3 — But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

SAY

What do these passages teach about generosity?

OBEY

Who around me has a practical need right now?
Can I give time, service, encouragement, hospitality, food, skills, transport, or money this week?
Am I generous, or do I hold tightly to what Allah has entrusted to me?
Do I quietly serve others, or only when it benefits me?
What would change if I saw myself as a steward rather than an owner?

SHARE

Who can I practically help this week?
Who needs encouragement or support?
Who could I invite into my home or share a meal with?
Who could study these passages with me?
Who will ask me whether I acted generously this week?

Giving is not only about money. Followers of Isa give their lives, time, energy, attention, compassion, hospitality, abilities, possessions, and resources for the good of others and the glory of Allah.

What Can Followers of Isa Give?

The Injil describes many different forms of generosity:

Money: helping people in need and supporting the work of the Kingdom of Allah.
Time: listening, visiting, helping, teaching, praying, and caring for others.
Service: practical help, physical work, transport, cleaning, cooking, repairs, and assistance.
Hospitality: opening our homes, tables, and lives to others.
Encouragement: strengthening tired, discouraged, or struggling people.
Forgiveness: releasing bitterness and extending mercy.
Skills and abilities: using what Allah has given us to bless other people.
The Gospel: freely sharing the good news of Isa with others.

Generosity is not measured only by size. Allah also sees sacrifice, faithfulness, willingness, and the condition of the heart.

Look Ahead

Choose one practical act of generosity this week:

Help someone with a practical task.
Give quietly to someone in need.
Visit, call, or encourage a lonely person.
Share a meal or open your home to someone.
Volunteer your time or abilities to help others.
Give something away that you have been holding onto selfishly.

Ask: What has Allah entrusted to me, and how can I use it for others this week?

Commissioning

Pray together.

Thank Allah for His generosity and provision.
Ask Allah to free your heart from greed and fear.
Pray for wisdom to recognise genuine needs.
Ask Allah to help you become generous with time, service, possessions, and money.
Pray that your generosity would point people toward Isa.
