Remember

Isa gave His followers a simple practice to help them remember Him, His sacrifice, and the new covenant established through His death and resurrection. Followers of Isa regularly gather to remember, give thanks, examine themselves, and proclaim what He has done.

The Lord's Supper is not empty ritual. It is a visible reminder of the mercy, forgiveness, and sacrifice of Isa. Click each heading below to expand or collapse the sections.

Look Up

Read these passages together slowly:

Luke 22:14-20 — "14 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood."
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 — "23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."
John 6:35 — Isa said to them, "35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."
Matthew 26:26-28 — "26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 — "16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread."

Remembering Isa is more than recalling information. It is renewing your gratitude, faith, obedience, and hope through what He has done.

What the Lord's Supper Reminds Us Of

The Lord's Supper points followers of Isa toward several important truths:

  • The sacrifice of Isa: His body given and His blood poured out for forgiveness.
  • The new covenant: free and complete forgiveness and reconciliation through Isa, not just obeying the Law and being judged whether or not you have ever broken it.
  • Unity: believers becoming one family together, no matter where they come from.
  • Thankfulness: remembering mercy rather than trying to earn salvation.
  • Self-examination: honestly turning away from sin and hypocrisy.
  • Hope: remembering that Isa will return again.

In many places, followers of Isa use simple bread and a cup to remember Him together. The power is not in the objects themselves, but in the truth they point toward.  The act of remembering what he has done for you already!

Look Ahead

Choose one practical response this week:

  • Reconcile with someone if there is conflict or bitterness.
  • Join with other believers in remembering Isa together.
  • Share with someone why the death and resurrection of Isa matter to you.
