Be Baptised

Baptism is one of the first acts of obedience for a follower of Isa. It does not magically save a person. Rather, it is a public declaration that we have turned to Allah, trusted Isa, and chosen to follow Him openly.

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality. It shows others that the old life is being left behind and a new life has begun with Isa.

Read these passages together slowly:

“Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)
 
“And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'” (Matthew 28:18-20)
 
“Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, 'Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'” (Matthew 3:13-17)
 
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead, we too may live a new life.” (Romans 6:4)
“Whoever acknowledges Me before others, I will also acknowledge before My Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32)

OBEY

  • Have I publicly identified myself as a follower of Isa?
  • Is fear of people stopping me from obeying Allah openly?
  • If I have not been baptised, what is stopping me?
  • What step of obedience is Allah asking me to take now?

SHARE

  • Who can I explain baptism to this week?
  • Who needs encouragement to obey Isa openly?
  • Who could study these passages with me?

Baptism does not earn salvation. It is an act of obedience, witness, surrender, and identification with Isa. It publicly declares that a person now belongs to Him.

Why Are Followers of Isa Baptised?

The Injil gives several important reasons why followers of Isa are baptised:

  • Obedience: Isa commanded His followers to be baptised.
  • Public declaration: It openly identifies us with Isa before other people.
  • Witness: It shows family and community that we have chosen a new direction.
  • Example of Isa: Isa Himself was baptised and gave us an example to follow.
  • Beginning of a new life: Baptism symbolises leaving the old life behind and beginning a new life with Allah.
  • Identification with Isa's death and resurrection: Going into the water and rising again points to death, burial, and new life.
  • Commissioning: Isa's baptism marked the beginning of His public ministry and journey toward the cross.
  • Courage and surrender: Baptism helps break secrecy and fear by obeying Allah openly.

  • Pray that your life would become a clear witness to others.
